Flooding in Australia’s New South Wales left kangaroos and other animals stranded as islands became submerged in water. Yesterday, a rescue mission was launched to save them.
On Lake Burrendong the huge and sudden influx of water meant that Two Tree Island, home to kangaroos and emus, became submerged.
Australian Wildlife Rescue Organisation (WIRES) members set out in small boats and kayaks to rescue some of the kangaroos, although not all survived.
Rescuer, Ana Mara, said: “Unfortunately, some kangaroos were lost before the rescue, especially young, furless joeys.”
