The Karate Kid remake has been slammed in Australia with claims that it’s way too brutal for children.
The film was initially rated M, which is suggested for viewers 15 and older in Australia (rather than 18+ in the US) but Sony Pictures appealed the rating and it was marked down to PG.
The Australian Council on Children and the Media are seriously pissed off about the change and are urging parents not to let younger kids see it.
Vice-president Elizabeth Handsley said, “The movie presents violence as a solution to bullying, which is absolutely wrong. Strong violence by a sympathetic character with little or no consequences is shown.”
The Karate Kid, starring Jackie Chan and Jaden Smith – son of Will and Jada Smith – was released in the United States on June 11 and has already grossed $135,788,721.
