The socialite said she found the jibes “hilarious”.
The ceremony’s host joked he had “sat through longer James Cameron speeches” than Kardashian’s 72-day marriage to Kris Humphries, and called her “trashy” as he compared the socialite to Britain’s Duchess Catherine, who was known as Kate Middleton before she married Prince William last year.
He said: “The Golden Globes are to the Oscars what Kim Kardashian is to Kate Middleton.
“A bit trashier, a bit drunker and more easily bought.”
According to website TMZ, Kardashian told friends she has a sense of humour, and “thought it was funny.”
Gervais also poked fun at The Beaver co-stars Mel Gibson and Jodie Foster in his opening speech, which the latter – who is gay – found funny, laughing and giving a thumbs up.
He said: “I mustn’t mention Mel Gibson this year. Not his private life, his politics, his recent films or especially not Jodie Foster’s ‘Beaver’.
“I haven’t seen it myself. I’ve spoken to a lot of guys – they haven’t seen it either but that doesn’t mean it’s not good.”
Even though Foster’s sons, Charles, 13, and 10-year-old Christopher were in the audience, Gervais didn’t think he went too far, saying: “I don’t think anyone thought it was offensive, did they?”
He added that the family had a “good sense of humour” about his speech.
