The flight was delayed after a random, routine drug and alcohol check was given to the first officer.

The crew involved were the pilot and first officer of flight NZ176 between Perth and Auckland on May 21, 2014.

The captain was reported to be irked with the thirteen-minute delay that this created, so he took matters into his own hands, and locked the co-pilot out of the cockpit for a while after take-off.

Air New Zealand have played the incident down, and claimed that the captain didn’t open the door as he thought the person knocking on it was a member of the cabin crew – not his co-pilot.

Bet that was an awkward onward journey for them both.
