Microbiologists at the University of Technology Sydney have accidentally come across an advancement, while developing new antibiotics for humans.

The team found a particle that can tackle chlamydia.

Koalas suffer from a different strain of chlamydia, which can result in something called dirty tail. It is terribly painful and often results in death.

Populations have dropped by 40% in Queensland and 33% in New South Wales in the last 20 years and the species made it on to the endangered list back in 2012.

Finger crossed this medicine gets distributed to koalas.
