Launching on the February 5, fashion designer Mariesa Mae and leading actress Penelope Morgan aim to not only seduce your weekly diary but also modernise the art of striptease.
The girls describe their show as a night of Bohemian elegance, combined with the grace, style and glamour of the Hollywood golden era. Entry is free, plus for only AUD $50 per person, you get 3 tapas plates and a glass of Chandon. With infusions of cabaret, lingerie, pop-culture and explosions of colour, Wednesday nights are heating up.
Originally studying acting together at NIDA, it wasn’t until several years later that Mariesa and Penelope’s paths would cross again, this time to embrace their love for the performing arts blended in with their skills and passions collected on their own personal journeys.
Previous to joining La Femme Boheme, Penelope Morgan had worked the burlesque scene internationally and felt it was time to bring new concepts to the industry.
“Most performers seemed to focus on either the vintage pin-up, the shocking and outrageous, the traditional striptease or slap-stick humor styles, which are all great, but I wanted to step things up a notch and bring back the glamour and finesse that I found was lacking in a lot of Australian shows.” she said.
Also with a musical theatre background and a lingerie label under her suspenders, Mariesa Mae believes it was a natural progression that all her passions would be embraced in such a show including bringing her designs to the big stage.
“The presentation will be charming and sophisticated, our aim being to create a show whereby people can sit back and relax, dine and be transported into a world of magical decadence,” Mae said. ‘I wanted to show my lingerie in a sophisticated and elegant format, and for the show to be a celebration of the beauty of the feminine.”
