Lady Gaga’s new single Born This Way became Billboard’s 1000th number one single as Gaga herself appeared on Good Morning America wearing a dress made of condoms.
“It is a tremendous honour. To be the 1000th number one on Billboard…I would be silly not to say this is the greatest honour of my career,” Gaga admitted
The song, performed by Gaga at last weeks’ Grammy Awards in an egg-shaped vessel, was rush released before debuting at the number one spot.
Grammys watched by a record number of viewers
Born This Way also broke the record for the largest amount of downloads of a song by a female artist in its first week on release with of 448,000 sales.
This latest Lady Gaga headline is almost eclipsed by the news that the pop superstar appeared on Good Morning America wearing a “latex-condom-inspired outfit” to promote AIDS awareness in a campaign backed by cosmetics giant MAC which raises money and awareness for HIV and AIDS prevention globally.
Wearing nude latex “condom” pants, a latex overcoat, a sculptured hat and weird pointy implants on her face Gaga commented:
“I want to get people started at home at a younger age with their children talking about HIV, talking about AIDS, talking about safe sex,”
“My mother talked to me about sex at a young age, and she always taught me to be self-aware — that’s in my new song, Born This Way.”
