The always-provocative Lady Gaga’s new single Judas has sparked outrage amongst Catholics worldwide.

The 25-year-old pop star – who released the track at the weekend – sings
that she is in love with Judas, the traitor who betrayed Jesus Christ.

In the video, she reportedly portrays Mary Magdalene and actor Norman
Reedus stars as Judas.

The lyrics contain the verse:

“In the most Biblical sense,

I am beyond repentance

Fame hooker, prostitute wench, vomits her mind

But in the cultural sense

I just speak in future tense

Judas kiss me if offenced,

Or wear an ear condom next time”

and

“I want to love you,

But
something’s pulling me away from you

Jesus is my virtue, and Judas is
the demon I cling to….I’m just a holy fool,

Oh baby he’s so cruel,

But I’m still in love with Judas, baby.”

The eccentric singer –  renowned for her
headline-grabbing antics – has incurred the wrath of religious figures
after releasing the track.

Bill Donohue, president of the Catholic League for
Religious and Civil Rights, told HollywoodLife.com that the American
star is using shock tactics to progress her “boring” career.

“This is a stunt… Lady Gaga tries to continue to
shock Catholics and Christians in general: she dresses as a nun… she
swallows the rosary. She has now morphed into a caricature of herself,”
he said.

“She is trying to rip off Christian idolatry to shore up her talentless, mundane and boring performances.”

Already the video has bben watched more than four million times, with a mixed recaction form those choosing to comment.
