Dino De Laurentiis, the legendary Hollywood producer behind such cinema greats as Flash Gordon and Barbarella has died in Los Angeles aged 91.The filmmaker who began his career in Italy achieved early Oscar fame for producing Federico Fellini’s 1954 film La Strada. In the ’70s he helmed such cinema blockbusters as Serpico and Death Wish.More recently he made the Silence of the Lambs sequels Hannibal, Red Dragon, and prequel Hannibal Rising.De Laurentiis was also famous for his commercial flops including Dune and a 1976 remake of King Kong.Rome International Film Festival founder Walter Veltroni said: “Cinema has lost one of its greats.”The name of Dino De Laurentiis is tied to the history of cinema.”
