Lindsay Lohan is to be charged with theft after she allegedly swiped a gold necklace worth $2,500 (£1,500).

The necklace was stolen from a Los Angeles store last month.

If convicted of theft, the Mean Girls actress could face up to three years in prison.

LiLo has denied stealing the necklace which has since been given back to the store.

Sources connected to the case have told TMZ that the L.A. County District Attorney believes Lohan to be a habitual thief.

Apparently the D.A.’s Office has considered three separate incidents where LiLo allegedly stole expensive items, including a $400,000 necklace in 2009 from an Elle Magazine photo shoot, a $12,000 mink coat from a NYC nightclub in 2008 and a $35,000 Rolex from a friend in 2010.

Lindsay was not prosecuted or convicted for stealing any of these three items, but prosecutors will ask the judge to allow the incidents into evidence to show “prior bad acts” if the case goes to trial.
