The country was jubilant as the two London 2012 medals were confirmed, making this the second day on the trot that Britain has hauled in gold medals.

Britain’s canoe slalom team was feeling hopeful after two boats qualified for today’s final.

David Florence and Richard Hounslow powered into first place in the semi-final, while Etienne Stott and Tim Baillie qualified in sixth place.

Earlier this week an excited Baille wrote on his blog: “Totally amazing and surreal experience racing on such a huge stage. Huge thanks to everyone for all the support we received at the venue and also for all the messages of support from around the world, it’s really nice to hear from so many of our friends from over the years.”

Bronze in today’s men’s canoe double was won by Slovakian twins Pavel and Peter Hochschorner.
