Suarez, who was involved in a race row in last season’s Premier League where he was found guilty of racially abusing Manchester United’s Patrice Evra, felt that some of the fans’ behaviour was unsporting.
“I can take the abuse. I don’t mind,” he said after the match.
“But I think it was a total lack of respect from the crowd to boo when we are trying to sing our national anthem.
“I’m hurt because we lost and we are going home.”
Team GB won the match 1-0 to finish top of group A and send Uruguay out of the tournament. They will now face South Korea in the quarter finals in Cardiff on Saturday.
