Demand for tickets far outweighed supply and there was confusion for those trying to purchase, hough organisers told media that “hundreds” of tickets had been sold, including a pair for the 100m final.
Sellers also reported problems when uploading their tickets.
The issues resulted in t the London organising committee (Locog) and their ticketing partner Ticketmaster suspending the uploading process shortly before 1pm to allow time for the system to refresh.
Locog rejected any criticism, saying the system was a standard “off-the-shelf” Ticketmaster system used for “live” ticket purchasing and that it had no custom elements for dealing with Olympic tickets.
Locog hopes to have the system fully functioning this afternoon, and it will run until February 6.
