It has been widely known that One Direction are on the bill for the closing ceremony but it has now been reported that the X Factor boyband will have a full five-minute slot at the Olympic show.

Accoring to the Mirror, Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson and Liam Payne will have the honour of topping a line-up that claims to represent the best of British music.

Putting One Direction on the Olympic Closing Ceremony bill will, if nothing else, ensure the show is trending on Twitter as the band’s army of teenage ‘Directioners’ explode with excitement.

According to sources though, the band are taking the show very seriously and will be aiming to stun the world with their once-in-a-generation musical talent.

An insider told The Mirror: “They’ve been at rehearsals and can’t wait to do their bit. It will be an unforgettable occasion and they feel privileged to be part of it.”

One Direction are not the only musical delight in store for us at the London 2012 closing ceremony. There are rumours that Kate Bush, Adele, Ed Sheeran and The Spice Girls will also take to the stage.

Take That are another possible addition to the line-up but Gary Barlow may not make it after his wife gave birth to a stillborn baby a few days ago.

Others acts include the Pet Shop Boys, The Who, George Michael and Muse.

The Olympic closing ceremony will also feature dancers, visual spectaculars and of course a parade of the athletes.

“Hopefully it will wrap up the spirit of what these Games have been, which is slightly anarchic, slightly mischievous, funny, heart-warming, emotional, inspiring, and uniquely British,” music director David Arnold told the Telegraph.

One Direction will be cracking open the alcopops over their spot in the closing show. It’s the icing on the cake for the X Factor band which has sold 12 million records this year.
