Simon Wright sat on the pavement looking as disheveled as he could outside the NatWest bank in Putney High Street, and then went home at the end of the day to his Fulham flat.

Suspicious locals though began to think that something was not quite right with Mr Wright, but it was not until PC Oliver Strebel brought the case to court that Wright has been held accountable for his fraudulent deeds.

“He used a sign saying he was homeless and people gave him money on that basis, which is clearly fraud. He would take the money from his cup and change it over at a local betting shop or amusement arcade,” PC Strebel told The Daily Mail.

Wright is now banned from setting foot inside SW15 and the Anti-social behaviour order (ASBO) bans him from begging in London.
