Peter Alexander, 28, was a talented photographer who had exhibited in London, Iceland and the US reports the Evening Standard.

He struck the pavement after falling and is thought to have died almost immediately. The model survived after landing on a parked car and was today in a serious but stable condition in hospital.

Billa Baldwin, 43, Mr Alexander’s friend who had invited him to the celebration, said he was on the building’s roof terrace when he heard a bang. “I went to the floor below and my mates said Peter’s gone out of the window. I looked out and saw Peter there, and another guy.”

Paramedics were unable to save Mr Alexander who, Mr Baldwin added, had been sober. Police believe there were no suspicious circumstances.

Mr Alexander, whose family are from south London, was a popular face in Brick Lane where he sold old cameras. His father Keith, a second-hand book dealer from Surbiton, said: “There will be an inquiry. We’ll get through this in our own way.”
