However, the station was reopened less than an hours later at 7.30am once the fire was extinguished by fast acting fire fighters from London Fire Brigade.
Commuters reportedly witnessed flames around the wheels of the train and a strong smell of smoke. The train was fortunately empty at the time.
The fire has caused delays of up to 55 minutes to some services, according to the BBC.
An official statement from National Rail Enquiries was released this morning at 7am saying “A train is on fire at London Victoria station, because of this, the station has been evacuated and trains are unable to run to and from the station. Journey times may be extended by up to 45 minutes.”
Southern Rail have stated on Twitter that “no-one was hurt which was good.”
