The reasons for London’s bus network carrying more passengers in 2013/14 are unclear, but it’s been suggested that increased population growth is behind the boom in bus journeys. In fact, by 2020, it’s thought that bus usage will increase by around 7%.

Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, said: “Buses play a massively important role in keeping London moving, ferrying huge numbers of people around every far corner of the capital. Without the efficient movement of people that our network allows, London simply wouldn’t function as smoothly it does.”

Looks like the 8,700 buses in London’s fleet have their work cut out for them…
