Robert Dewey Hoskins, 54, escaped from the Metropolitan State Hospital in Norwalk, south east of LA, last Friday.

Reports say he is now targeting Hollywood star Halle Berry, 45, who is planning to flee to France with her boyfriend Oliver Martinez and daughter Nahla.

A source said: “”Friends are scared for her life because Robert Hoskins wants to kill her.”

Police have launched a manhunt for Hoskins, who served 10 years in jail before being deemed a “mentally disturbed offender” and moved to a psychiatric hospital in 2006.

In July last year – around one year after his release – he was convicted of vandalism and committed to hospital again.

A statement from LAPD said: “Hoskins is a very psychotic man when not taking his medication and has very violent tendencies.”

They urged anyone who sees him to contact authorities immediately.

Police said they searched in the Long Beach area, where Hoskins is believed to have taken a bus to, but have not found him.

Madonna gave evidence at Hoskins’ trial in 1996, saying she had recurring nightmares since she saw the homeless drifter near her home the year before.

Madonna said Hoskins told her bodyguard: “he was there to take me away … that I was supposed to be his wife, that if he couldn’t have me, he was going to slice my throat from ear to ear.”

Hoskins scaled a wall and jumped into the star’s pool before he was shot twice by a guard.
