Madonna arrived at the Venice film festival to unveil her new film WE.

The film is yet another rehash of the scandalous affair between American divorcee Wallis Simpson and King Edward VIII.

Made In Dagenham actress Andrea Riseborough plays Simpson in the film which will screen out of competition at the festival.

The £18million romantic drama which switches between the King and Wallis’ Simpson’s relationship and a modern day romance between a divorcee and a Russian security guard.

Bright Star actress Abbie Cornish plays the recently divorced Wally Winthrop and Oscar Isaac plays Russian Evgeni.

Talking about the film recently, Madonna said:
“I’ve wanted to tell this story for a very long time, and bringing it to life has been a great adventure for me.”

It will hopefully be an improvement on some of the turkeys Madonna has starred in, including Swept Away and Shanghai Surprise.

The film is the pop star’s second outing as a director. Her first movie Filth And Wisdom was released in 2008.

The festival which continues until Sep 10 got off to a bang yesterday with George Clooney’s The Ides of March.
