A man was killed and two others were seriously injured following an argument outside a Mthatha tavern on Sunday, Eastern Cape police said.
Superintendent Mike Fatyela said three patrons leaving a tavern on the corner of Victoria and Maderia streets in Mthatha were attacked by a gang at 2.30am.
He said the men got into a quarrel with the group of unknown men. “The patrons were stabbed, one died on the scene. Two others were taken to hospital in a serious condition, said Fatyela.
The patrons were also robbed of an undisclosed amount of money, he said.
Police are investigating a case of murder and assault.
Meanwhile, 22 motorists were arrested for drunken driving in central Mthatha over the weekend, said Fatyela.
He said 12 of the motorists were granted R1500 bail each and were expected to appear in the Mthatha Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
