The man bought the creature from a crocodile park in the Northern Territory of Australia, where it is still possible to buy reptiles.

The rest of the Australia doesn’t have quite so liberal an attitude to people purchasing dangerous reptiles, so the man tried to smuggle it into Queensland.

The baby crocodile was hidden in one of his boots, inside his suitcase and stored in the plane’s baggage hold.

The reptile was discovered and died shortly after being rescued.

The man was fined in $5,700 (£2,653) in Brisbane Magistrate’s court for smuggling the reptile.
