“It’s an honour to sign for Manchester United,” he has said of his move.
“I am looking forward to following in the footsteps of so many great strikers, bringing my experience and playing my part to help the team compete for the biggest trophies in the game. I can’t wait to get started.”
After handing in his notice earlier this year to Gunners’ head Arsene Wenger, stating he did not want to renew his contract which was up at the end of this year and was seeking a move elsewhere, Van Persie was the subject of speculation. He was linked with a move to Juventus and Man City, before Mancini came out in May stating that United were the frontrunners to sign the un-demand striker.
Van Persie scored 44 goals for club and country last season in a stunning run of form that saw him collect the World Footballer of the Year award.
