A statement from NSW Police said emergency services were called to Queenscliff Point at about 6.50pm Sunday (Australian time) after a passer-by saw the body, reportedly wearing a suit.

The family of the man has been informed, as have Sea Eagles club officials, but it’s understood his name won’t be released until tomorrow.

The Daily Telegraph reports the man is in his early 20s and was a member of Manly’s NSW Cup squad.

A police statement said: “A crime scene was established and examined by specialist forensic officers while a rescue operation was conducted to recover the man’s body.

“Detectives are continuing their investigations into the incident and will prepare a report for the information of the coroner.

“A post-mortem examination will be conducted to determine the exact cause of his death.”
