Tributes were paid to the former Prime Minister, with the bishop London saying that Thatcher is now at peace after a “life led in the heat of political controversy”.

More than 2000 people attended the funeral at St Paul’s cathedral in central London, with more than 4000 police officers on duty in the capital to ensure order is upheld and no protest groups get out of hand.

Despite the threat of anti-Thatcher groups making their presence felt at the funeral, the event has largely taken place without incident, with the Right Reverend Chartres telling the congregation that “today is neither the time nor the place” for political debate about Thatcher to take place.
