And, according to BBC London, about half of teacher training courses for the two subjects have unfilled spaces.

Citing Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS) data, it says there are 126 maths teacher training courses on offer in the capital and 60 have at least one space unfilled.

In sciences, 217 courses are being run, but 121 have spaces.

There is also a gap in courses recruiting to train primary school teachers.

With an Outlook of +6%, employers across the UK are still intending to take on staff in the coming quarter – but not at the levels we saw earlier in the year.

And, according to London Councils, the capital needs an additional 133,000 school places by 2018 to address future demand.
