If you think of thundering, fast-food chowing overweights, you are likely to think of the United States, the land where the accepted thinking is that bigger is definitely better.

Yet new research has revealed that Americans are no longer the world’s most overweight, that illustrious accolade now belongs to the Mexicans.

A new study by the UN has revealed that 70% of Mexicans are overweight and that almost a third of the population is clinically obese.

Most worrying, though, is the statistic that childhood obesity has tripled in decade.

“The worst thing is that the children are being programmed for obesity. It’s a very serious epidemic,” said physician Abelardo Avila with Mexico’s National Nutrition Institute.

The Yanks are still right up there though in the number two slot, with Kiwis third and Australians fifth in the top ten list of the world’s fatties.
