Roache, 79, recently admitted he’d slept with over 1,000 women in his time, but today Briggs bragged that he’d got jiggy with even more ladies.

Briggs, 76, said: “I’m amazed that Bill Roache said he’s slept with that many women. What goes on in the bedroom stays in the bedroom. I was a bit of a ladies’ man myself.

“I don’t know if I can say how many I’ve bedded, but it’s probably more than him.”

In the show, soap fans saw the two men feud over women, including Ken’s wife Deirdre, played by Anne Kirkbride, who had an affair with Baldwin.

Roache, who has played Barlow in the ITV1 soap since it started 50 years ago said he’d slept with hundreds of women before he settled down with his second wife Sara, but wasn’t proud of it.

He said: “Looking back, I didn’t know any better. But what I did find out is it does not bring you happiness and it is not the way to be.

“I had the opportunity, I indulged it and I can tell you this – it’s not worth it. The pain that it caused, and there’s all sorts of dangers.”

His insatiable appetite for the ladies earned him the nickname “Cock Roach” on the set.

Briggs left the soap in April 2006 when Baldwin died in Barlow’s arms from a heart attack.

Briggs also criticized at Eastenders, saying he wasn’t surprise that Corrie had higher ratings.

He said: “Soaps like EastEnders lose viewers because these young characters that come in for two minutes alienate older viewers.”
