Notably absent from the nuptials were her in-laws.

Withers, 29, hid under a parasol as she entered and left the church, where she wed Freddie Bourne, also 29.

It was in June this year that the email from Freddie’s stepmother, Carolyn, became an internet sensation, leading to her being branded ‘the mother-in-law from hell’.

In the email, Carolyn told Withers that she was “an ideal candidate for the Ladette to Lady television series”.

She attacked Withers for her “staggering uncouthness and lack of grace”, telling her that she had poor table manners and spent too long in bed in the mornings.

Carolyn also told Withers that “no one gets married in a castle unless they own it. It is brash, celebrity style behaviour” and suggested she “lower your sights and have a modest wedding as befits both your incomes”.

The email rounded off with the observation: “One could be accused of thinking that Heidi Withers must be patting herself on the back for having caught a most eligible young man. I pity Freddie.”

Carolyn and Freddie Bourne’s father, Edward, are believed to have been on a walking holiday at the time of the wedding. It is reported that the family has not spoken to each other since the email story broke.

Withers’ dad Alan – who has publicly referred to Carolyn Bourne as ‘Miss Fancy Pants’ – told reporters that the wedding had proved “a wonderful day”.

At the time the email went viral, comments posted on the web showed that people were divided over whether Carolyn Bourne was indeed the mother-in-law-from-hell, or had made some valid points about Withers’ behaviour.
