Munich in 2-3 days

Day 1

Start your morning wandering around Marienplatz, the old town square. The most dominating feature in the square is Neues Rathaus which is the town hall. At the top of the building is the underwhelming Glockenspiel which stops pedestrians in their tracks everyday at 11am when the characters spring into life.

For lunch check out Viktualienmarkt which is a fantastic food market. Then head for for Residenz Museum which shows how Barvarian rulers lived and the importance of architecture as a sign of power. In the early evening head to the Hofbrauhaus which markets itself as the most famous pub in the world.

Day 2

The following day walk off the beer and sausages with a walk around the English Garden (Englischer Garten). While in the garden you can see the Greek-style temple Monopteros, people getting naked to sunbathe at Schönfeldwiese and surfers cutting loose on the Isar River. After all the walking you’ll deserve another beer so stop off at the Chinese Tower (Chinesischer Turm) which is surrounded by a wonderful beer garden. In the afternoon visit the Neue Pinakothek which is considered one of the most important museums of nineteenth century art in the world. Here you can see paintings by Van Gogh, Monet and Manet. To finish off the day pick another beerhall and enjoy the evening.

Day 3

On day three make your way to Olympiapark where the Olympic Games were hosted in 1972. It was the site of the Olympics’ worst tragedy when 11 Israeli athletes were murdered by Palestinian terrorists after being kidnapped. From here head to the BMW Welt and BMW Museum where you can get a close look at the history behind one of the world’s most famous automotive manufacturers.
