Brendan Benson (Echo)
His links with Jack White through The Raconteurs should win Benson a host of new listeners, but My Old, Familiar Friend has more in common with Benson’s largely forgotten debut One Mississippi than with the likes of Steady, As She Goes.
This is radio-friendly power pop built for late ’70s AM dials rather than 21st-century digital stations, but Benson’s way around a melody on the likes of Garbage Day and Poised And Ready means it retains a cheering appeal.
