Food

Namibian cuisine is a combination of German and South African influences dominated by game dishes such as gemsbok (a large desert antelope), sprinkbok and kudu.

German sausages, brötchen and landjäger are very popular.

Ethnic groups such as the Ovambo people love mielie pap (corn porridge) or mahango (a corn based porridge or soup) often eaten with meat.

Drink

Beer is the national drink of Namibia and Namibians are vocally proud of their beer. It is brewed according to the ‘Reinheitsgebot’, an ancient German law that states that beer may contain only barley, malt, hops and water. Local brews include Windhoek – named after the capital – and Tafel Lager.

Water

Tap water is drinkable in Namibia unless you are advised otherwise,
