The survey, by Public Police Polling, also showed that just over half of Mississippi voters were in favour of mixed-race marriage (54 per cent).
The relatively open-minded folk in Alabama were more favourable towards interracial relationships, with 67 per cent saying they supported mixed-race marriage.
Interracial marriage has been legal across the US since June 1967, suggesting that these voters might be a bit behind the times.
Republican presidential candidate frontrunner Mitt Romney is today trying to win favour in the Deep South, as the closely-forced primaries in Alabama and Mississippi take place.
