Metasearch site Momondo has analysed its UK flight searches made over the last four months, for travel during this upcoming Christmas and New Year period.

Momondi looked at planned flight departures from all UK airports, within the period of Friday 18 December 2015 and Sunday 3 January 2016.

America’s own Empire City reclaimed first place as most-popular destination for a winter break for Brits, for both long and short breaks, having been beaten to the top spot last year by Bangkok.

Famed worldwide for its unique Christmas spirit, The City that Never Sleeps is the location of many family holiday movies, such as ElfMiracle on 34th Street and Scrooged. New York also is an excellent choice for Christmas shopping, with top department stores Macy’s, Bergdorf Goodman, Saks Fifth Avenue and Henri Bendel attracting shoppers each year.

Next most-popular destination for Brits was Dubai, for both long and short breaks, with its guaranteed sunshine, luxurious hotels and relatively short mid-haul flight time.

And Lisbon, Portugal’s capital and largest city was third most-searched, for long and short breaks. Famed for its cross-section of culture and history, with Romanesque, Gothic, Baroque and Postmodern architecture, the city is also a foodie’s heaven and home to many gourmet restaurants.
