The statement, denying the existence of evidence linked to extraterrestrials, was issued after a petition on the US government’s website was signed by 17,000 people. The White House has agreed to respond to any petition which gains enough support.

“The US government has no evidence that any life exists outside our planet, or that an extraterrestrial presence has contacted or engaged any member of the human race,” wrote space policy expert Phil Larson of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy.

“In addition, there is no credible information to suggest that any evidence is being hidden from the public’s eye.”

Two petitions called for disclosure of government information on ETs and an acknowledgement of any contact with aliens, clearly a popular topic with the American public.

Disappointingly, though probably not conclusively for conspiracy theorists, the US government claims it does not have a secret bunker stuffed with files on extraterrestrial life and mummified alien bodies.

However, the post went on to say that the administration believes life on other planets may exist, but that humans are unlikely to discover it.

Larson noted that many scientists and mathematicians believe the chances are high that there is life somewhere among the “trillions and trillions of stars in the universe”.
