In a period of 36 hours, from Sunday 10.25pm to Tuesday morning, New York Police Department confirmed there were no serious violent crimes – shootings or stabbings – in any of the city’s five boroughs.
The run ended when a 27-year-old was shot in Brooklyn at 11.20am on Tuesday.
“Nice way to start the week,” NYPD deputy commissioner Paul Browne told the New York Daily News.
All of the police officials who have commented on the rare occurance, couldn’t remember the last time it happened.
Total crime is up three per cent in New York for the year, but that’s been blamed on a nine per cent increase in grand larcenies. Murders are down 23 per cent and shootings hve been reduced by 10 per cent.
