He was fishing on the Adelaide river and was trying to retrieve a fishing hook when he was taken by the beast.
Police launched boats at around 8.30pm in a bid to find him and a short time later a crocodile was shot.
Human remains were found at around 9.30pm.
The incident happened near the Adelaide River Bridge on the Arnhem Highway, east of Darwin and not far from the home of the world-famous, one-armed Brutus, who was recently pictured eating a shark.
It was reported that the man’s wife may have witnessed the horrifying attack.
