“We can’t tolerate this anymore,” Obama said. “These tragedies must end. And to end them, we must change.
“In the coming weeks, I’ll use whatever power this office holds to engage my fellow citizens — from law enforcement, to mental health professionals, to parents, and educators — in an effort aimed at preventing more tragedies like this, because what choice do we have?”
Obama spoke to a room full of adults and children, with his speech broadcast around the nation, as America once more tries to get to grips with a mass shooting.
Adam Lanza walked into Sandy Hook elementary school on Friday and shot dead 20 young children, and six adults. The 12 girls and eight boys shot dead were all six and seven years of age.
