The plot to mix cyanide with skin cream and apply it to people attending the game was uncovered on an extremist online forum.
A plotter calling himself Abu Hija Ansari said: “Through skin: 1 — cyanide, 2 — skin cream. Mix the ingredients. The skin cream will open the pores in the skin and speed up the absorption and effectiveness of the poison.”
Other members of the site appeared to endorse the idea, with another extremist saying, “It is a good idea and you need to plan well,” before appending a London Olympic logo.
The site, which has 17,000 members worldwide, is known to have links to six al Qaeda terrorists.
Bernard Jenkins MP, of the all-party homeland security group told the Sun: “I hope the individuals are identified so action can be taken. Those who believe there is no terrorist threat are living in cloud cuckoo land.”
