An annual technology market survey carried out by Eurocom Worldwide, the Global PR Network, and Six Degrees, is a warning to job applicants to seriously consider what they post on their profiles.
A fifth of IT executives admitted they have rejected applicants because of what they have posted on social media, according to the report.
The annual study previously revealed that almost 40 per cent of companies look at potential employees’ profiles on social media sites.
However, this is the first report to show that bosses are actually rejecting job applicants based on their social media profiles.
Mads Christensen, Network Director at Eurocom Worldwide, said: “The 21st-century human is learning that every action leaves an indelible digital trail.
“In the years ahead, many of us will be challenged by what we are making public in various social forums today.”
