Li beat Eugenie Bouchard 6-2 6-4 to progress to her third Melbourne final in four years while Cibulkova enjoyed a shock win over fifth seed Agnieszka Radwanska – who beat defending champ Victoria Azarenka in the quarter finals – to reach her first Grand Slam final.
“Aga is an unbelievable player and I expected a tough match. I just knew I had to go for my shots,” said 24-year-old Li, who has won three career singles titles.
“I had so many thoughts in my head but just focused on my game. I can’t believe I’m in a final.”
“I can’t believe this is happening,” Cibulkova said.
