Manners (Frenchkiss/Columbia Records)
“What is this?” asks Manners’ press guff.
”Another lost LP from Brian Wilson’s sandbox phase?”
Er, no, it’s US newcomer Michael Angelakos’ debut LP.
There’s no denying the craftsmanship on some of the songs (Sleepyhead is a peach), but overall Manners is just too high pitched: Angelakos’ voice resembles a chipmunk on helium, the percussion is of the tin can variety, the synths are sugary, and the childish chants invoke The Go! Team.
’Nuff already.
