England cricketer Kevin Pietersen is no stranger to life in the fast lane but the batsman may want to slow down after he was fined AU$239 for speeding along the Geelong Ring Road on Thursday.
A police spokesperson said a man aged in his 30s was booked for travelling at 121 km/h in a 100 zone in a yellow Lamborghini at 2.35pm and an England team spokesman confirmed the man involved was Pietersen.
Pietersen was man of the match in England’s triumph by an innings in this week’s second Test in Adelaide, scoring a double-century. While his mates were training at the MCG on Thursday in preparation for a three-day game against Victoria starting on Friday, Pietersen was speeding along the highway.
Former Australian champion Shane Warne, now an ambassador for Lamborghini, helped hook Pietersen up with the $475,000 car, and KP was clearly enjoying the loaned gift.
Pietersen tweeteed: “Stunning beaches on the Great Ocean Rd… Gorgeous drive!!”
Pietersen had also posted a picture of the yellow vehicle, reportedly worth £296,000, and thanked Warne and the car dealer.
He said: “Massive thanks to Lamborghini Melbourne & @warne888 for letting me play with this for a few days.”
