But as they say ‘shit happens’ and indeed it did, when a black oily substance rained on the backyard of Artie Hughes and his wife who were enjoying an unseasonably warm night outside their New York home.
Mr Hughes claims that the liquid that stained his clothes – and much of his backyard – was excrement that somehow plummeted to earth from a passing aeroplane’s bathroom.
Mr Hughes said: “A plane was coming over. Next thing you know [my wife] says “Oh my God it’s raining.” I said “No it’s not”‘.
He added: “Some black liquid, black oil came off on her face, and I walked around and I looked and said ‘Oh my God’.
“There was quarter-sized, nickel-sized, dime-sized drops all over my deck, my barbecue, my table.”
The couple’s neighbour, Laurence Major Jr, vouched for the claims, confirming there was an “odourless” substance all over their patio and clothes.
The excrement shower was also backed by a Malverne police officer, who said he confirmed with the Port Authority that there was indeed a leakage.
The FAA is now carrying out an investigation.
