Pole dancing for Jesus has taken off in a small Texan town, but, strangely enough, it’s stirring up controversy.
Pole Fitness For Jesus is a free class for Christian women to learn some strip-club tricks to Christian music. All in the name of The Lord.
Instructor Crystal Dean told ABC affiliate KTRK-TV that Jesus would have approved of pole dancing.
“God gives us these bodies, and they are supposed to be our temples and we are supposed to take care of them. And that’s what we are doing,” she said.
Apparently the Bible contains justification for pole dancing in Psalm 149:3: “Let them praise His name with dancing; Let them sing praises to Him with timbrel and lyre.”
Women attending the class claim that pole dancing brings them “spiritual connection”. But not everyone’s happy.
“Some guy came up with his Bible and we were in class and he thumped on the door and was waving his Bible,” Dean said.
“People who want to sit there and judge it, you know, like well that is sacrilegious or you know. That doesn’t make you a good Christian when you judge other people.”
Pole Fitness for Jesus classes are held in on the second Sunday of each month. To take part you need to bring in your church pamphlet.
Classes are free as Dean said she does not want to make a profit on God’s day.
