The Metropolitan Police investigation will run currently with the Football Association’s probe into the complaint made by the London club.
Chelsea have accused Clattenburg of using “inappropriate language” including racial terms towards two players.
It wasn’t Chelsea or the FA who brought the issue to the police’s attention, but
lawyer it Peter Herbert, who is behind a possible union to back black players.
Referee Clattenburg will formally deny the allegations, the PA has reported.
The 37-year-old from Durham is viewed among the top football officials in England and is on the FIFA international panel, but in light of the allegations he hasn’t been picked for this weekend’s fixtures.
