A car thief was caught after the policeman he hit got up and chased him with a taser.
Lee Ralph Adamson, who was jailed for 23 months last week, hit PC Dan Pascoe while driving a stolen car on the M25. Pascoe was setting up a roadblock on a slip road with his police car when he was hit by the stolen BMW.
He was sent flying, but got straight back up on his feet to chase Adamson, who he tasered before collapsing.
Other officers at the scene arrested Adamson, who pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, failing to stop at the scene of an accident, driving while disqualified, driving without insurance and resisting arrest.
Inspector Chris Colley, the head of Surrey police's roads policing unit said: "The officers, particularly PC Pascoe, had to react extremely quickly and despite the shock and possible injuries they may have sustained during the collision they were determined not to let the suspect get away.
"Thankfully PC Pascoe only sustained minor injuries as a result of the collision but it's clear that the extremely dangerous manner in which the stolen vehicle was being driven could easily have resulted in a tragic outcome."
