Getting There

If you are not driving onto the city with a hired car, as a passenger on a luxury coach or a budget backpacker on the ever-popular Baz Bus, you will be flying in on a domestic flight from Johannesburg, Cape Town, George, East London or Bloemfontein. The city has no public transport system to speak of, so hiring a car at the airport would be extremely advisable.

Getting Around

The airport is close (within five minutes drive) to the main beaches, hotels and guesthouses, city centre and shopping malls.

Roads are well marked and you hardly need satellite navigation in a city with less than a million people. Local drivers (not minibus taxis) are notorious for being friendly, driving slowly and giving others the right of way – hence Port Elizabeth being known in South Africa as The Friendly City.

Adventurous souls may try the privately owned self-regulated minibus taxis that run on several routes through the city.
