The scene: Prezzo has locations all over London but we hit the Victoria restaurant, two minutes walk from the station. Sitting upstairs, the big windows give it an airy, spacious feel and, although the restaurant is busy with lunching office workers and tourists, we don’t feel crowded.

The grub: Prezzo is an Italian chain and the menu includes traditional favourites like stone-baked pizzas and calzones, pastas, risottos and a selection of meat, seafood and salad dishes.
However we’re here to try out the new Light Options menu. Not a bad idea considering TNT’s penchant for afternoon biscuits.

I go for the mushroom and spinach flatbread pizza with salad. Light Option meals claim never to contain more than 650 calories and I’m slightly nervous that my meal will be the size of a postage stamp.

But no, the pizza arrives looking as decadent as a “regular” pizza and there’s a generous helping of salad.

Happily, it tastes as good as it looks with loads of melted mozzarella and a crispy base.

My friend goes for the half-portion of summer vegetable fusilli with salad and is similarly happy.

Behind the bar: There’s a full wine and beer list and if you’re serious about the calorie-counting, there’s even a special section of lighter wines that are lower in both calories and alcohol content.

Bill please: Light Option pizza and salad from £8.50, glasses of light wine from £3.50.

Verdict: Tasty, satisfying Italian in a friendly, informal environment. Being virtuous has never been this easy!
