Prince William and Kate Middleton are engaged and will marry in 2011, it has been announced.
Clarence House office said it was “delighted to announce the engagement of Prince William to Miss Catherine Middleton.”
According to the palace, William and Kate got engaged last month during a holiday in Kenya. The pair are due to marry next spring or summer in London.
The announcement from Clarence House came after frenzied speculation over a visit by Kate’s parents to the Queen’s Scottish estate last month. The visit was seen as a clear sign that the couple were planning to marry.
Wills and Kate have been together for eight years after meeting while students at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland. Recently, the pair have been spending much of their time in north Wales where William is a search and rescue pilot.
Their 2011 wedding will be the biggest royal event since the wedding of Charles and Diana.
